Warhawk sideline mascot coming soon

ÁùºÏͼ¿â fans will soon welcome their new Warhawk mascot—in person.

Street Characters Inc., an internationally acclaimed firm, is creating the new sideline mascot for ÁùºÏͼ¿â.  The new mascot will tentatively be completed in mid-August and unveiled in Monroe soon after. Street Characters Inc. has constructed mascots for major corporations, as well as collegiate and professional athletic teams, including Major League Baseball, National Football League, and hockey and soccer teams in Europe and the United States.

Amy Weems, sideline mascot coordinator and assistant dean of Student Life and Leadership, began working with the mascot company June 15, shortly after the ÁùºÏͼ¿â Mascot Committee approved all of the new Warhawk logo designs. Using approved images created by Rickabaugh Graphics, Street Characters Inc. quickly produced a three-dimensional rendering and began constructing the sideline mascot for ÁùºÏͼ¿â.

Fans will warmly welcome the Warhawk mascot, Weems said. “They are going to love the new sideline mascot because it is unique to ÁùºÏͼ¿â and it incorporates many aspects of the new Warhawk brand.â€

One important characteristic of the new mascot has yet to be decided—its name. The ÁùºÏͼ¿â Student Government Association is asking the ÁùºÏͼ¿â community to submit ideas to SGA President Rob Carroll at SGA@ulm.edu by Friday, July 14. SGA will vote on the mascot name and announce their decision next week.

ÁùºÏͼ¿â representatives are also looking for the perfect student to bring the mascot to life. The mascot will train with the ÁùºÏͼ¿â cheerleaders, dance team, and band to complement all aspects of spirit building at ÁùºÏͼ¿â athletic events.

Auditioning students will create two-minute skits that will include a creative dance and unique props. The chosen student will serve one year and will receive a $500 scholarship per semester. For audition details, contact Student Life and Leadership at 342-5287 or e-mail Jennifer Sword, Spirit Groups coordinator, at jsword@ulm.edu.
