ͼ Wind Ensemble to perform final concert of spring semester April 25

The ͼ Wind Ensemble will perform their final concert of the spring semester Friday, April 25, at 7:30 p.m. in Brown Auditorium. The Wind Ensemble is conducted by Derle R. Long. Guest conductor for this performance will be Dr. Michael Spears. There is no admission fee for this concert.

The program will include the “Overture to Colas Breugnon” by Dimitri Kabalevsky, “Sanctuary” by Frank Ticheli, the “Carnival” movement from “La Fiesta Mexicana” by H. Owen Reed, and “Symphonic Dance Number 3” by James Clifton Williams. Ticheli, Reed, and Williams all have ties to the State of Louisiana.

The program will include the world premiere of “A Composer’s Guide to the Galaxy” by ͼ graduate composition student Philip Bradbury of Monroe.

The Wind Ensemble will also perform Percy Grainger’s “Irish Tune from County Derry” to celebrate the ͼ Band Department’s invitation to participate in the St. Patrick’s Day festivities in Ireland in March 2009.
