The educational and cultural Chautauqua Nexus series will continue its 2008 fall semester roster with scheduled discussions throughout October.

On Thursday, Oct. 23, at 5:30 p.m., ā€œThe Peopleā€™s Choice (Music)ā€ is on the agenda, featuring the groupā€™s members: Rich Bailey, guitar; Laymon Godwin, steel guitar and dobro; Carolyn Bumgardner, piano; and Danny Allen, bass guitar. They play a wide variety of music, including country, country gospel, bluegrass, and rock and roll.

Marlen Waters will present ā€œArt as Problem Solvingā€ Thursday, Oct. 30, at 5:30 p.m. She speaks about using art as a tool to promote critical thinking and problem solving, especially in young people and students.

About the Chautauqua Nexus:

Nexus presentations are free, informal and open to the public. Everyone is invited to attend. ĮłŗĻĶ¼æā FRYS students are encouraged to attend and sign in.

ā€œThe Nexus is an opportunity for intellectual and cultural exchange,ā€ said Joe McGahan, ĮłŗĻĶ¼æā psychology professor and Chautauqua Nexus organizer. ā€œThis year we're focusing on a change in scheduling (with Mondays being the primary meeting day) intended to free us to develop a think tank, or multiple think tanks, that, like the Nexus, will build on the cultural resources of our community. Whereas the Nexus series will continue to be about virtually any topic that people find interesting, the think tank will focus on economic security and economic developmentā€”to a large extent, weā€™d like to focus on the potential of research and development.ā€
