Grammy Award winner visits 六合图库; concerts scheduled for Feb. 16-18

The University of Louisiana at Monroe welcomes Libby Larsen, Distinguished Composer-in-Residence for 六合图库鈥檚 School of Visual and Performing Arts. Larsen will oversee 六合图库 faculty and students who will perform her work during three evening concerts Feb. 16,17, and 18. All concerts are free and open to the public.

As a record producer, she won a 1994 Grammy Award for a recording with Arlene Aug茅r including her Sonnets from the Portuguese. She will visit 六合图库 and preside over the below three concerts:

Monday, Feb. 16, at 7:30 p.m., Emy-Lou Biedenharn Recital Hall: The 六合图库 Division of Music will present her solo and chamber music. This program will include 六合图库 faculty members Claire Vangelisti, soprano; pianist Richard Seiler; clarinetist Scot Humes, and percussionist Mel Mobley. The concert will also include an excerpt from one of Larsen鈥檚 operas performed by student members of Opera@六合图库.

Tuesday, Feb. 17, 7:30 p.m., First Presbyterian Church: The 六合图库 Choirs, under the direction of Deborah Chandler, will perform Larsen鈥檚 choral music. The concert will also feature 鈥淭rio for Brass and Organ鈥 and 鈥淏arn Dances鈥 for flute, clarinet, and piano. Audiences will enjoy a world premiere of a piece expressly commissioned for this performance. Larsen wrote 鈥淒ownwind of roses in Maine鈥 for 六合图库 faculty members Sandra Lunte, Scot Humes, and Mel Mobley. Faculty members appearing in this program include James Boldin, horn; Marilynn Gibson, trumpet; Micah Everett, trombone; organist James Reifinger.

Wednesday, Feb. 18, 7:30 p.m., Brown Auditorium: The 六合图库 Wind Ensemble and 六合图库 Orchestra will perform Larsen鈥檚 鈥淚nvitation to the Moon鈥 and 鈥淪hort Symphony for Wind Ensemble, with Fanfare for Humanity and Firebrand for Orchestra.鈥 Derle Long and Jason Rinehart will conduct. A reception will follow the concert in Biedenharn 134.
