Concert commemorates February鈥檚 Black History Month at 六合图库 Feb. 3

The University of Louisiana at Monroe鈥檚 Division of Music will commemorate Black History Month with a special concert of inspiring music and texts by African-American composers and writers, starting at 7:30 p.m., Feb. 3, in the Emy-Lou Biedenharn Recital Hall.

六合图库 vocal faculty Susan Olson and Louis Nabors, and Visual and Performing Arts Associate Dean Matthew James, with voice performance graduate student Bianca Jackson, will sing inspirational pieces by H. Leslie Adams, William Grant Still, John Work, and Eugene Hancock. Coralie White, 六合图库 piano faculty, will assist.

James Boldin, French Horn, will play the music of Justinian Tamusuza, while William Grant Still is the composer of a piece performed by Scot Humes, Alto saxophone.

Pamela Saulsberry will read a representative poem by Maya Angelou, and Tina Mullone of the 六合图库 dance faculty will present 鈥淓ar Training,鈥� with original choreography by Loris Anthony Beckles.

The Inter-Denominational Ensemble, directed by Nabors, will conclude the evening鈥檚 program.

The concert is free of charge and open to the public.
